Perritt Primary School will present its production of “Circus! Circus!” Monday at 2:15 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The play concerns the excitement surrounding a circus coming to town, but, according to the program, “the Ringmaster has come down with a case of laryngitis” and a substitute is needed fast. The synopsis continues, “join the clowns, dancing bears, lions and a host of other hilarious performers as they help one very sad clown smile again.”

Those performers include students from the first grade classes of Cindy Gierth, Calicia Thomas, Donna Adkins and Shannon Prince, and was directed my music teacher Kelly Bell.

Soloists include Spencer Allen, Colin Conroy, Emily Smith, Kyle Matocha, Tyler Tatum, J.J. Williams, Matyas Johnson and Wheatley Welch.

Bell assures that the play was an awesome experience for the children. “Everyone has a part,” said Bell. “It gives normally shy kids a chance to come out and get some confidence. Everyone gets a chance to shine.”

The program is one of several that are performed throughout the year with the classes at Perritt, and Bell said that she finds it amazing how supportive the school district is with the arts.

“I get these kids twice a week for 40 minutes, and everyday for 40 minutes the week leading up to the show,” said Bell. “Most schools only give their students 60 minutes in music for the whole week. You don’t get this kind of support everywhere.”

The most important goal, according to Bell, is to instill a love of music in the children. “I want them to enjoy it and not be afraid of it,” said Bell. “At this age, they develop a love for it, and then later learn the technical aspects. Here they get that desire to appreciate performing.”

Bell encourages the public to join the students on Monday for what she said will be a very entertaining and fun show.

The students from Adkins’ class are De’Marco Buckley, Emily Burdue, Ethan Campbell, Kevin Cardona, Elisha Davis, Sarah Durand, Preston Faas, Jacob Franklin, Bryan Gaddis, Cheyenne Holmes, Toni Hughes, Madison Ivy, Kiyon Jones, Ja’Niya Knox, Kendrick Knox, Rose Long, Peyton Lowery, Alexzander Loy, De’Jon Nolen, Breanna Oliver, Makenzie Riley and Javari Stephens.

From Gierth’s class are Chasity Bell, Colton Bonner, Tylyn Branch, Baylee Burson, Cahleel Campbell, Abby Cervantes, Chad Coulter, Kelsey Coventry, Joe Fox, Kerrinicha Giles, Madison Haley, Matyas Johnson, Isabella King, Kyle Matocha, Sasha Maxey, Carlee McCraney, Matthew Porter, LaCoriyana Thomas, Dillion Thompson, Alex Turley and Jayden Waite.
