  • Saturday Night Live has been on hiatus for a month... and this is the best they could come up with?
The episode that marked the debut of Seth Meyers' replacement Colin Jost at the "Weekend Update" desk was disappointingly low on laughs, featuring one-joke sketches that went on too long (see: Aidy Bryant's hefty Tinkerbell stand-in "Tonkerbell"). Even Kate McKinnon's typically hilarious Ellen impersonation was a bit lackluster. As far as "Weekend Update," there are of course going to be some growing pains in that department but... we miss Seth already.
Academy Awards: We pick the winners
Check out some of the night's highlights, featuring host Jim Parsons, below:
Ellen Cold Open: Kate McKinnon dusts off her Ellen impression and Parsons does an entertaining Johnny Weir. (The funniest moment from the sketch? Weir tweeting afterwards: "I need Jim Parsons necklace from his Johnny Weir parody on @nbcsnl!").
Jim Parsons Monologue: Parsons seems to be battling nerves for his opening number "I'm Not That Guy," in which he stresses that he's very different from Sheldon, the character he plays on The Big Bang Theory.
12 Years a Slave Audition: In the night's best sketch, aspiring character actors are uncomfortable reading for certain roles in 12 Years a Slave.
Awkward Elevator: Parsons plays an office worker who has an unfortunate, embarrassing incident in an elevator after hearing what he thinks is a bomb.
