The Gurdon Lady Devils picked up their eighth win of the season after only winning two a year ago as they topped the Mineral Springs Lady Hornets 43-42 Friday night.

It was a battle from the opening tip, and at the end of the opening period, the score was knotted at 11.

Mineral Springs took the lead in the second, outscoring the Lady Devils 14-7 to take a 25-18 lead at the break.

The Lady Devils came back in the third, however, cutting their deficit by one for a 38-32 score with eight minutes to go.

Gurdon allowed only four points in the final period while adding 11 to secure the single point win as Daz Crusoe sank a free throw for the final bucket of the game.

Alia Williams led the Lady Devils with 15 points, and Tykeidra Jones put up 12.

Dai'lisha Gulley scored five, Crusoe and Dominique Young had four each and Kristen Brown rounded out the scoring with three.

The Lady Devils shot for 39 percent from the charity stripe, hitting 14 of 36.

"I'm disappointed in free throws," said head coach Edna Cooper. "Overall, I think they're doing an extremely good job. They're playing hard. I want them to continue to do what they're doing, continue to motivate themselves and put their best effort forward. Right now they're showing teamwork. They hadn't brought home a trophy in 10 years, and they've brought home two this year."

The Lady Devils will be back on the hardwood tonight as they travel to Prescott to face the Lady Wolves.
