  • Like a trumpet blast, John the Baptist heralds the appearance of Jesus: Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world … which baptizes with the Holy Spirit (John 1:29-33). Religious systems and self-righteous do-gooders have tried to devise ways to deal with sin, saying if you are good enough you might make it into eternal bliss. Jesus didn’t fiddle around with it. He just knocked sin in the head and destroyed the spiritual foundation of all weakness, sickness, sorrow and death! Then, he provided supernatural spiritual empowerment by giving the Holy Spirit. Those who believe receive the benefits: victorious life here and hereafter. That’s good news! Jesus did not stop there. He completely stripped all power from the devil, the author of all deception and bondage. “… His cross …spoiled principalities and powers … triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 1:15). “Spoiled” means “to divest wholly.” Those who believe, receive the benefits: total deliverance from bondage to walk in the light of truth that makes and maintains your freedom. That’s good news! If that is not enough, Jesus went further. He presented his perfect righteousness to Father God to be put to your account so that you can live the rest of your life in the good graces and favor of God even though you have done nothing to deserve it. Solely because of what Jesus did for you, God sees you as his favorite child. Those who believe, receive the benefits: angels surrounding you with God doing special things for you on a daily basis (Psalms 5:12; 91:11). That’s good news! Behold the Son of God! See what he is offering you! Compare him with all others and see if there is a better deal somewhere else. Is there any other who is the one unique Son of God who is one with God himself, who has made the way for you to be freely blessed in every way? When the chips are down and the end of your life has come, everything will crumble like ashes except the Son. He will still be standing strong. He accomplished the needed work for you to make it through with victory. Believe the Son! Receive the benefits! More believing to be seen in 2014.
