  • The Bismarck Lady Lions put up a good fight, but in the end they were unable to maintain their lead as they fell 40-30 to the Centerpoint Lady Knights Tuesday night.
Bismarck took control in the first quarter, taking a 10-9 lead, but Centerpoint made a comeback late in the second to take a 20-18 lead into the break.
The Lady Lions held on in the third, but Centerpoint again was able to take the edge, outscoring Bismarck 7-6 for a 27-24 lead with eight minutes to go.
Bismarck battled back in the final period, but Centerpoint dug deep to put up 13 while giving up six to secure the win.
Logan Oestreich and Kaylee Newsom led the Lady Lions with seven points apiece. Oestreich had eight rebounds and was five-of-six from the free throw line.
Shawnee Shepherd had five points, and Jimmilee Smith and Addison Crow had four each. Smith had eight rebounds on the night.
Libby Snodgrass rounded out the scoring with a trey.
The Lady Lions hit seven of 11 from the charity stripe for 64 percent efficiency.
They had 20 turnovers, but 13 of them came in the second half of the game.
"We had trouble scoring in the second half because of the higher number of turnovers," said head coach Chris Oestreich. "We were much better, and I feel that even in the loss we are turning the corner in some areas. I think this team has a chance to be very good at the end of the year. Tonight we doubled the number of [deflections] than we've had in any game all year."
The Lady Lions will travel to Prescott Thursday night to face the Lady Wolves. Tip-off will follow the junior girls game.
