God is love...love never fails” (1 John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 13:8).
New Year's Resolutions are goals or good calculated intentions designed to enhance life and living in every way. It has been said, “Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you will land among the stars.” It is better to set a goal and miss it than to just sit around and never get off the ground. If we had one major goal to set, what would be the highest, best, and most comprehensive, life-enhancing resolution we could possibly make for the New Year? If God is love, and love never fails, it seems to me the “moon” we should be shooting for is to have more of God's love operating in our lives. God's love has the focus to create and maintain ways to make the lives of others peaceably comfortable, joyful, and filled with purpose. God's love is unconditional. Its desire is to benefit others with no strings attached for self gain. As we bless others in this way, God will see to it that we are blessed. God's love is sacrificial. It will faithfully persist in its role of blessing and benefitting others even at great expense to itself. God's love is powerful. Through the agencies of the written word of God and the Holy Spirit, which infuses our inner man with God's love, we can experience and express God's love in our daily lives to accomplish things beyond our natural abilities for the good of all. Jesus constantly moved in the miraculous love of God in this way. God's love seeks no harm for any person. If we could all just step it up a notch living in and expressing the love of God, the world would be a better place. As the song goes, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love, It's the only thing that there's just too little of; What the world needs now is love, sweet love, No, not just for some but for everyone”. If there is one comprehensive resolution that will serve all in every way, it is to resolve to yield to the Word of God and the Holy Spirit so that God's unfailing love is expressed more and more for the benefit of all those around us, and thus, for ourselves. More love to be seen in 2014.
