The Arkadelphia Lady Badgers struggled last week in their conference opener, falling to the reigning 4A state champion Malvern Lady Leopards, 60-31.

The Lady Leopards took a huge lead in the first quarter, 24-4, and they never let up, stretching their lead to 39-12 by the half.

After the break, the Lady Badgers picked up their best quarter of the game, scoring 12, but the Lady Leopards added 21 to stretch their lead to 60-24.

The Lady Badgers held the home team scoreless in the final eight minutes while adding seven to set the final.

Angelique Robinson led the Lady Badgers with nine points and six rebounds.

Kelsey Kobe had six points.

Morgan Stinson and Chasity Burris put up four points apiece. Burris had six rebounds.

"They just came out and jumped on us early," said head coach Lynn Rook. "Kelsey got in foul trouble early, so that took her out of the mix."

The Lady Badgers will be playing in the Herb Russell Basketball Tournament sponsored by Southern Bancorp starting Friday. They will face Cutter Morning Star in the opening round with tip-off set for 1 p.m. at Ouachita High School.
