Ruby Sue McRee Harris, 100, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. She was born in Casscoe on Nov. 26, 1913, to Samuel Mims McRee Sr., and Mary Ethel Porter McRee. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters predeceased her, as did her husband of 65 years, Bryan E. Harris.
She is survived by a son, Daniel W. Harris, and daughter, Norma Harris, both of Moseley, Va.
Mrs. Harris was employed for many years by the Dade County Public Schools in Florida, including Coral Gables and Hialeah Senior High Schools and Ponce de Leon Junior High. She spent World War II working in Houston for General Mills, and later traveled with her family to Bangkok, Thailand, where she lived for two years while her husband was on assignment there. After retiring in 1974, she enjoyed life as a homemaker in Junction and Greenville, Texas. She was living in Moseley, Va., with her children at the time of her death.
Mrs. Harris will be laid to rest at Hunter's Chapel Cemetery in Casscoe at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, the Salvation Army or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
