Betty Smith–Lesuer (WITH PHOTO)
Betty Smith-Lesuer was born on June 16, 1948 in Marianna to the late Mamie Lee Daniels and J.C. Smith. Betty and her brother were raised by and lived with their great-aunt Easter Shaw Swanson during her childhood.
She invited Christ into her life very young and served him willingly and faithfully until she was called to her reward. She enjoyed going to her church and loved her church family.
Betty graduated from Anna Strong High School in 1969 and attended Phillips Community College in Helena.
She was married to Leonard Lesuer in 1978. They remained married for several years.
Betty relocated to Texas where she furthered her education by becoming a certified nursing assistant. She also worked in food services as head cook. She retired in 2006 from the Big Spring State Hospital where she worked as a nursing assistant.
Betty had a special way of pouring out her heart and love to her family and friends. She was a joy to talk to and be around.
She bid this world farewell to enter her new heavenly home on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at the Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas.
Her mother, Mamie Lee Daniels, her father, J.C. Smith, and a brother Larry Sanders precede Betty in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her only child, Sherry Latreace Smith of Big Spring, Texas; three grandchildren, Huldah Faith Smith, Melchezidek Royal Priest Smith and Eunice Horizon Smith, all of Big Spring, Texas; eight sisters, Carolyn Leonard of Chicago, Ill., Patricia Daniels of Chicago, Rose Calloway of Conway, Geneva Smith of Chicago, Pastor Doris Stroud of Kankakee, Ill., Debra Russell of Chicago, Janice Smith of Joliet, Ill., Bernice Fuller of Milwaukee, Wis.; three brothers, Isaac Daniels of Chicago, Johnny C. Smith of Little Rock, and Terrance Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; four aunts, Catherine Ferguson of Louisiana, Elizabeth Stone of Marianna, Rosie Lee Allen of San Diego, Calif., Dorothy Daniels of California; an uncle, Eddie B. Turner of Marianna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Funeral services for Betty Jean Smith-Lesuer will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at Mt. Moriah M.B. Church, Oak Forest.
Rev. Columbus Dukes will officiate. Burial will be in Gill Cemetery at Gill. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel. Final viewing will be 10 to 11a.m.Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Mt. Moriah M.B. Church.
