The Hope Ladycats took care of business in their tourney finale performances last Friday in the 2013 Gunslinger sr. girls basketball tournament held in New Boston. The Ladycats came away with 36-19 win over Liberty-Eylau JV to tip-off things in the right direction. The Ladycats led 21-8 at halftime, then posted 15 points in the second half and held the Lady Lions to 11 points. The Ladycats secured a 17 point victory. For the game, Ladycats' Jasmyne Farris led scoring with 14 points in double-figures. Oshiana Pree followed with seven points, Nia Griffin scored four points, Alexus Lidge and Jalisa Green added three points apiece and Mariah Williams contributed two points in HHS's win. In the Ladycats final game of the tournament, HHS prevailed over Hughes Springs, TX 41-35. The Ladycats exploded in the first half for a 36-17 advantage at halftime, then added 22 points for the second half to head back to Hope for a six point win and end tourney play, 2-2. For the game, Ladycats' Farris led the way with a strong 14 points and Pree knocked down 10 points for double-figures. Green added six points, Bria Wesley posted five points, Ajah Criner scored three points. Nakya Griffin, Niesl Griffin and Williams all contributed two points apiece for the Ladycats first two wins of the season. The Ladycats will be off for the Christmas holiday, but return to work on the hardwood December 27-28 competing in the Ashdown sr. girls tourney before beginning 5A South Conference hoops in January 2014.
