Jean Eason presented cash awards to students at Goza Junior High School in 1983 for essays they submitted about history. Jennifer Stafford won $5 for her first place essay, Madeline Long won $2.50 for her second place paper and Michelle Wood won $1.25 for her third place essay. The papers were entitled "What does freedom in America mean to me and my future?" The papers were judged on their originality, neatness, thoroughness, grammar and knowledge.
