County judge Miles "Moots" McCauley (seated) signed a proclamation in 1983 proclaiming this Severe Weather Awareness Week. Jim Burns, coordinator of the Office of Emergency Services in the county, is pictured with McCauley. Burns said the county will participate in the statewide tornado drill Thursday. He said all of the sirens will sound between 9 and 11 a.m. to test the preparedness of the county warning system. He said the siren will be "one continuous long blast" as compared to the "highs and lows" of a fire siren. Burns said he wished everyone in the county would stop when they hear the siren and consider what they would do in the event of an actual tornado warning.
