The Arkadelphia Lady Badger Varsity and Junior Varsity squads took to the court Tuesday night to face the Lady Panthers of Ashdown, but the home team was unable to send the Lady Panthers home without a win as the Lady Badgers fell 47-32 in Varsity action.

The JV squad, however, was able to dominate and earn a big win over the visiting team.

The Lady Badgers were able to take control of the game early and at the break, the home team held a 10-5 lead.

The Lady Panthers attempted to come back in the second half, but the Lady Badgers were able to hold on and stretch their lead to 25-17 to secure the win.

Kourtney Lewis led the Lady Badgers with 8 points, and Brenna Smith added 6.

“This was their first true JV game of the year,” head coach Lynn Rook said. “They’ve had some other teams mix in some of their varsity players. They did a good job.”

While the JV squad was able to dominate the court, the Varsity girls fell behind early, and they were unable to regain their footing to earn a win.

The Lady Panthers took an 11-9 lead in the opening period, and by the half, the visiting team led 23-15.

After the break, the Lady Badgers were able to add 11 while holding the Lady Panthers to nine to cut the deficit to 32-26, but the visitors held on in the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Angelique Robinson led the Lady Badgers, picking up a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also had six steals on the night.

Kelsey Kobe had 11 rebounds and seven points.

Amarya Jones and Ashley Whittle each had five points and seven rebounds.

“We got back to 27-26 in the third, but we couldn’t take the lead,” Rook said. “Angelique fouled out early in the fourth quarter, and we weren’t able to recover. On a positive note, we had 38 rebounds, and they had 23. What really hurt us was that we turned the ball over 24 times, and they only had 11 turnovers.”

The Lady Badgers will be back on the hardwood Friday night as they play host to the Malvern Lady Leopards. Tip-off will follow the JV boys game.
