  • A Gurdon man has been arrested for the rape of a juvenile and could face life in prison.
John Thomas Prince, 42, 17851 Highway 51 S., was formally charged in Clark County Circuit Court.
According to court records, police were called to the Baptist Health Medical Center, Arkadelphia, on June 18 after an 11-year-old child was taken to the hospital. The child was questioned at the Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center in Hot Springs, an advocacy center specializing in interviews of that type. The records indicate that a child advocate interviewed the child who identified Prince “as the offender.”
According to the report, the child knew Prince and had seen him “act in a violent and abusive manner … in the past.” The child reportedly told the advocate that Prince was known to be violent and aggressive when he is “under the influence of intoxicants,” and that the child was afraid of Prince at those times.
The report states that, “The juvenile victim had knowledge of John Prince consuming alcoholic beverages throughout the day, in the hours prior to the incident.”
According to the report, the child was afraid to call for help during the attack.
The court records indicate that Prince has been charged with the rape of a child who is less than 14 years old, which is a class Y felony. The charge carries a sentence of 10-40 years in prison or life. As of press time, Prince was still in the custody of the Clark County Jail.
