Chemistry, as in team chemistry, and consistency  are improving for the Lady Badgers and it showed Tuesday night at the AHS gymnasium as Arkadelphia knocked off Ashdown 64-29.
From the field, the Lady Badgers sank 25 of 54 attempts (46 percent) and 10 of 14 shots fell from the line (71 percent). Ashdown was held to 12 of 35 (34 percent) from the field and 1 of 3 (33 percent) from the line.
“I told the girls that was the most impressive number of the night,” said Head Coach Lynn Rook, “because we pressed them for three quarters without reaching, hacking and grabbing. We were moving our feet and keeping the defensive intensity high and they still only shot three free throws.”
The Lady Badgers beat Ashdown on the boards, outrebounding them 31-17, and also forced 21 turnovers.
“Overall, this was our best offensive and defensive performance up to this point. We only gave up 15 points over the last three quarters,” said Rook.
The Lady Badgers started out in the hole, going down by five, 14-9, in the first period before ending on an eight point run to take the lead and never look back.
“We have ten goals for every game,” said Rook, “and one of them is to win every quarter. This is the second consecutive game that we have done that.”
The Lady Badgers combining Rook’s two favorite “C-words,” chemistry and consistency, in  one game, pleases him.
The Lady Badgers are now 13-9 and 6-3.
Jasmine Dickerson led the Badgers with 20 points and three assists. Briana Seale contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Chelsea Welch scored eight points, had five rebounds and three steals. Ronnicka Jones scored seven points. Chekeita Roberts scored five points and had two steals. Britlee Williams had four rebounds and four assists. From the bench, Jordan Cooper contributed eight points, five rebounds and two steals.
The junior varsity girls added the first win for the night in Arkadelphia’s three win sweep of Ashdown with a score of 15-11. Cooper scored seven points and Lavonda Guinn scored five.
Friday, the Lady Badgers face 9-0 Waldron on the road. The junior varsity tipoff will begin the night’s games at 5 p.m.
