Robert L. “Bob” Calhoun Sr., 71, of Arkadelphia passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock after a long and courageous bout with cancer.

ARKADELPHIA — Robert L. “Bob” Calhoun Sr., 71, of Arkadelphia passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock after a long and courageous bout with cancer. He was born in Oak Grove, La., on Dec. 5, 1938, the son of Joe Y. and Estelle Danley Calhoun.
Bob spent over three decades in law enforcement and retired as Chief of Detectives with the El Dorado Police Department and as Chief Investigator with the Union County Sheriff’s Office. He was a member of Third Street Baptist Church in Arkadelphia and former member of Urbana Baptist Church of Urbana.
He was predeceased in death by his father, first wife Gloria Flenniken Calhoun, and his sister Susan Johnson.   
Survivors include his wife, Grace Thurman Calhoun of Arkadelphia; a son, CDR Robert L. Calhoun Jr., USN, and wife Dr. Alice Ann Calhoun of St. Michaels, Md.; mother, Estelle Danley Johnson of Cabot; granddaughters, Margaret and Amelia Calhoun of Round Rock, Texas; sister, Annette Pagan of Cabot; brothers, Thomas Calhoun (Shirley) of Cabot, and Joseph Y. Calhoun, Jr. (Winnell) of Cave City; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Terry and Dr. Noland Hagood Jr.; step grandsons, Daniel and Joshua Hagood of Arkadelphia, first mother-in-law Lorene Flenniken and sister-in-law Wanda Cardinal of El Dorado. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law and many friends.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Urbana Baptist Church with Bro. Ricky Watts officiating. Burial will follow in the Urbana Cemetery under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels of El Dorado.
